The franchise gained a lot of popularity due to having the owners Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla, where Juhi Chawla did partnership with her husband Jay Mehta for the team. They have a record of longest winning streak in the T20 competitions and the team has won two times in the IPL competition.

History of Kolkata Knight Riders

In 2007, The board of control of cricket in India, announced the competition like T20 and Indian premier league. Only 18 participated in the starting matches in 2008. These 8 teams were representing different states of India and Kolkata knight riders was one of them representing the Kolkata city. 

The red chilli entertainment producer, Mr. Shahrukh Khan’s team in partnership with Juhi Chawla and her husband the biggest businessman Jay Mehta was the one who took the responsibility of team Kolkata knight riders. 

Jay Mehta invested with her wife Juhi Chawla $75.09 million which was approximately equal to ₹2.98 billion. Initially the capital of the team was Saurav Ganguly; he was the President of BCCI.

At that time he was considered to be the idol player for the team. That time, they got the name for the team from the reference of an American series in 1980’s named the knight riders.

In 2008, during the starting of the tournaments, when the Kolkata knight riders were introduced first, the logo of the team consisted of the golden blazing along with the Viking helmet with the black background, shining and charming like logo that audiences loved, and in the third season, it changed to purple. In 2012 the present blazing purple colour along with the Corinthian helmet trimmed with gold.

The jersey for the team players of Kolkata knight riders is manufactured and made by the famous fashion designer Manish Malhotra.The theme of the team is the Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo Re, if we translate in English the meaning, we will act, fight, and win! was scored by Vishal–Shekhar duo. The Knight Riders album contains and features some singers and music composers including Usha Uthup and Bappi Lahiri.

The team has won two IPL titles against Punjab kings and Chennai Super Kings.
