He was born Parthasarathy on November 7 1954, in a Tamil Brahmin family. His father, Srinivasan, was a lawyer and freedom fighter, and his mother, Rajalakshmi, was a housewife. His early name was Parthasarathy, but his father changed his name to Kamal Haasan after some time. 

His two brothers, Charu Haasan and Chandra Haasan, were actors, and his sister Nalini was a classical dancer. Career of Kamal Haasan

He started his career in childhood. When he was 6, as a child artist, he won a gold medal for his first child movie, Kalathur Kannamma. In it, he plays a youth who falls in love with an older woman.
