Barcelona got their 2023/24 Champions League campaign off to a flying start with a dominant 5-0 victory over Royal Antwerp at the Estadi Olimpic Lluís Companys on Tuesday night.

The Catalans were in control from the start and took the lead in the 23rd minute through João Félix, who finished off a neat passing move. Félix added his second just before half-time, tapping home after Memphis Depay’s shot had been saved.

Barcelona continued to dominate in the second half and added three more goals to their tally. Ansu Fati made it 3-0 in the 55th minute with a fine individual effort, before Anssumane Fati and Pedri completed the rout in the 75th and 85th minutes respectively.

It was a thoroughly impressive performance from Xavi Hernández’s side, who looked like one of the favorites to win the competition. Antwerp, on the other hand, were well beaten and will need to improve significantly if they want to challenge for a place in the knockout stages.

Match analysis

Barcelona were simply too good for Antwerp on Tuesday night. The Catalans had more possession, created more chances, and were more clinical in front of goal.

Xavi Hernández’s side played some excellent attacking football, with João Félix, Ansu Fati, and Pedri all impressing. The trio combined well to create and score goals, and they will be a handful for any defense in Europe.

Antwerp, on the other hand, were well beaten. They struggled to create chances and were caught out on the counter-attack on several occasions.

Overall, it was a very comfortable victory for Barcelona. They will be looking to build on this momentum when they face Porto in their next Champions League match on October 4.
